Tewkesbury Lib Dems are calling for cuts in income tax

Tewkesbury Lib Dems are calling for cuts in income tax rather than VAT to help families cope this winter

The Liberal Democrats are calling for a 4p in the pound income tax cut to put extra money in the pockets of thousands of local families. Local Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Alistair Cameron said, "Everyone is feeling the pinch, but only the Liberal Democrats are talking about helping residents most in need now. This would be much more effective than reducing VAT and channel help to where it is really needed."

"Cutting income tax will make a real difference to local families."

Pensioners have also suffered under Gordon Brown's Labour Government.

Older people received a pension rise of £3.40 a week this year, but this has been wiped out by the huge rise in the cost of living.

Many pensioners could now face a difficult decision this winter - heating or eating.

Alistair Cameron said, "This is a disgraceful situation. With the cost of heating going through the roof, older people need help now. Instead they are getting more excuses from Brown and Labour."

The Lib Dems are fighting for a big increase in the basic state pension and a return to the earnings link. They also want to make energy companies cut prices for the least well off.

Alistair Cameron of Tewkesbury Liberal Democrats said, "No one should be forced to go cold or hungry this winter."

The Conservatives have totally failed to offer any answers on the economic crisis hitting us all.

Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable said, "The Conservatives are playing a hopeless game of catch up. They have no real answers at all."

The Lib Dems have called for a 4p in the pound cut in income tax to help families get through the current crisis. The Conservatives' top priority is tax cuts for millionaires.

Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Alistair Cameron said, "With the rising cost of living, local families need more money in their pockets now. Only the Lib Dems will do this."
