Alistair Cameron supports coalition agreement9.46.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 17th May 2010 Alistair Cameron, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Tewkesbury supports the coaltion agreement between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives which was overwhelmingly backed at the party's Federal Conference yesterday at the NEC, Birmingham. Alistair said: "It is essential above all to provide a stable government to deal with the Country's economic problems. Following the election results on May 6, not enough Liberal Democrat and Labour MPs were elected to form a stable government. It was therefore necessary to form a coalition agreement with the Conservatives to provide this stability. "Although the Liberal Democrats have inevitably had to make concessions to reach this coalition agreement, I believe some good policies have been achieved out of the coalition agreement such as a commitment to reduce tax for those on low incomes, some extra investment in schools, restoring the link between old age pensions and earnings and ending the detention of children in immigration centres." Alistair added: "We also have a commitment to a referendum on changing the voting system to a fairer system which, if approved by the British public, will mean that the MPs elected will more closely reflect the way people have voted. "The new coalition government should now have the opportunity to make long term decisions in order to tackle our economic problems. This should include reforming the banking system, boosting our manufacturing capability and providing green jobs in areas such as renewable energy and our railways."
